Believe in Magic - The little things in Life

                    There is something so charismatic about handwritten letters. In today’s world where Email, Facebook, or Text are just fingertips away, I would rather be thrilled to receive a handwritten note from a dear one which I can cherish for a lifetime over a message or an email on my mobile.

Handwritten letters are personal, a person receiving them can feel important and amazingly happy! It is much more special than receiving any materialistic gift. It is because, in this chaotic schedule and a 9-5 work agenda in one’s life, it is an effort to take a moment and pen down the beautiful thoughts you want to share with your loved ones. This can mean a lot, it can change rough day of a person to glee. Life is all about little things like this, a gesture which can brighten one’s day.

We are so lost in our busy lives that we often forget special days in our life. I love to celebrate special moments in my life, I feel it’s a day gifted to me. Ever since I was a little girl, I had this habit of writing letters to my parents and dear ones greeting them on their important moments in life. Talking about the best part of handwritten letters, is saving them, it is when you can hold and read a handwritten letter which is decade old.

I remember how my mom, aunt, uncle still saved the letters written to them by my grandfather years ago. How emotional it made them feel, how much he loved them and how today we grandchildren can still perceive his words even without seeing him. Just by penning down the thoughts and sharing it with people who mean something to you can leave an enduring impact. That’s the magic you can create.

Down the memory lane if you’re an antique lover like me, you can look at these gems in the future and feel the essence of it. Attached below are the handwritten letters I sent to my handsome husband a decade ago. They surely made a difference we looked at each other and helped us survive a long distance relationship. Coz why not words that you truly mean are best expressed when handwritten.

Treat along Textile Trail - The Saree Affair

Sari is a timeless, classic, antique piece of garment that measure 6-8 yards, pervasive in its own style.  The love affair with the sari has continued down the ages. People began adding colors to this fascinating piece of garment ever since its origin.

Weaving is an exceptional heritage craft. It takes a lot of effort to compose a drape in stunning color, pattern or textile. The intricacy of the design and the delicacy of the weave is what makes handloom ornamental and prestigious in it's own beautiful way. 

A beautiful sari is a story teller, a label of grandeur. I'm a fanatical sari lover, my favorite past time is to pull delicate drapes from my closet and admire the artisan of the fascinating six yard fabric.

I recently purchased a beautiful ancient weave ' Chanderi ' which is truly the princess of handloom weaves. The fabric of Chanderi is regal and sumptuous, serene and stylish, delicate and beautiful, and an absolute stunner. 

I bought a lime green chanderi silk sari, a fall-out of the sparkle called 'My first Sari'. A project which is a collaboration of Ami Patel(Celebrity Stylist) and Madhurya Creations.  I fell in love with this sari, the color, texture, beauty, magnificence everything about it. 

Chanderi silk stole my heart, I couldn't resist buying another one from the same collection in less than a month. Both are beautiful in their own way. The chic motifs on the two saris add contemporary poise to this drape.

The 'My first Sari' project is also a great initiative supporting handloom and Indian weavers. And every purchase made is a reward to educate a girl child in India. What a beautiful purchase these two were. 

Bommala Koluvu - Court of Dolls

Welcome to my space, I'm Anusha residing in NJ, USA. This is my first blog post so I decided to start it with something very dear to my heart. Ever since I was a kid, we have been celebrating Sankranthi by displaying beautiful collection of dolls in tiers. The Koluvu is usually arranged in odd number of tiers and the dolls that are displayed are passed from one generation to another as heritage. 

My Sankranthi Koluvu is never complete without the display of beautiful ancient handicrafts of Etikoppaka and Kondapalli. It is a historic custom to display wooden wedding dolls in the Koluvu, I have this exquisite set of wedding display from Kondapalli presented to me by my Aunt for my wedding. Their beautiful colors always add extra charm to my Koluvu.

Not to forget the thoranam for the main door, these are swinging ornaments to discern an auspicious celebration. I love the colors orange, yellow and green they stand out and look vibrant. So I used yellow and orange marigold flowers with mango leaves amidst. I'm very precise about details, especially if it's decor.

Drift into Details:

The fabric I used to grace the tiers of the Koluvu was my wedding Thera sella/ Addu thera, it is a pure silk textile with beautiful peacock motifs and golden zari on the border. 

I used vintage Rajasthani door drapery that are handcrafted with embroidered peacocks and elephants as a backdrop for my Koluvu adding few artificial marigold flowers in bright orange and yellow on either sides to achieve the flash of a door entrance.

Not to miss the ceiling, the elephant hangings are made of paper mache in yellow color with intricate detailing is truly a stunner adding elegance to the over all composition.

To attain the final look, I added an extra step to place all the silver things used to perform pooja. To bring the divine look I added a urli with my favorite button roses.
